Trick your brain into doing anything

I don't feel like it how to easily do tasks You hate :-

The matter with flow states is that they are specialized for things people already enjoy.

An athlete that gets within the zone, surfing… that's fun stuff, how does one get into flow during your taxes?

How does one get into flow cutting your grass? you cannot , it doesn't work that way.

Ok, so what does one do? So this system is about how can we see the work itself differently.

So if we understand that each one behaviors are spurred by desire to flee discomfort, well, what can we do when the task itself is uncomfortable, once we do not like doing that work?

And that i searched and searched and that i didn't find any techniques that i actually like that basically work, some people wish to use flow, you know .

The work of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and i am sure, you know, flow alright butthe problem with flow states is that they are specialized for things people already enjoy. Trick your brain into doing anything

How does one get into flow cutting your grass?

you cannot , it doesn't work that way.Ok, so what does one do?

This to me is magic. Trick your brain into doing anything

So I worked with Dr. Ian Bogost, who is at Georgia Tech, and he has this theory that he calls, “Play anything”.

And he believes that you simply can find out how to play a task, but play doesn't need to be enjoyable.

That the work of play is to divert our attention, not distract, distraction is about doing belongings you didn't decide to do,diversion may be a refocusing of attention.

Then we will use, ”play”, under certain conditions to assist divert our attention during a task that we other wise wouldn't enjoy.

So he gives the instance of cutting his grass. He hated cutting his grass. then he wanted to work out how am i able to learn to play cutting my grass?

And he gives us two ways to try to to this.He says the primary step is to feature constraints.

So how quickly am i able to cut the grass?

How am i able to cut the grass with the least number of turns?

Add constraints to the condition, sort of a sandbox. Kids like playing during a sandbox not because the sand is everywhere, but because it's only within the confines of this tiny box.

That is what makes that have fun.The second thing that we will do to find out the way to play anythingis to seem for the variability.

So he advises us against what tons of individuals preach, which is using an extrinsic reward. Add a spoon filled with sugar, that is what Mary Poppins tells people.

Bogost doesn't like that, he thinks that's a very bad advice.

Because what we do once we add a spoon filled with sugar and that we do that tons , we say, “if I compute , i will be able to give myself a smoothie”.

Not only are smoothies horrible for you, but that's another point, the important point here is that if we only use extrinsic rewards, we never learn to enjoy the task itselfbecause it's only about the prize, the ribbon, the treat that comes after the reward.

And actually, studies find that when people are given these extrinsic motivators, these extrinsic rewards, they're less creative, they're less likely to stay with the task over the future

So he says rather than trying to find the fun, the play outside, search for it within the experienceby focusing more intently, not trying to require your mind off the task, but more that specialize in the task itself by watching the variability.

How does one do that?

So when Bogost wanted to find out the way to play this activity of cutting his grass, he learned everything he could about grass,as crazy as that sounds.

The various sword he could use, how he could cut it differently, the fertilizer, he focused more intensely thereon so he could find the nuances, the sweetness of that task, and that is how he learned to play it.

And you think that that's crazy, how does one do that? believe all the stuff that people seem to like that to you'd be work.

So making coffee to me is figure but I even have a lover who is crazy, hooked in to making that perfect cappuccino.

Performing on a car, you kidding me, to repair a car?

You'd need to pay me to try to to that, i would not do this for free of charge ,and yet I even have another friend who may be a car buff, who in his spare time loves the watching the variability within the constraints of fixing up his hot rod.Trick your brain into doing anything

My friend who loves crochet, she loves it because an equivalent exact principles, but to me, I mean, that might be work to crochet.

So it seems it isn't so crazy that we will actually by adding the constraints and by trying to find the variability, we will learn to play anything.

Thanks for watching and that i will see you guys with in the next Blog .
